We’ve been in quarantine for over a month now and there’s no telling when we will get back to some semblance of normalcy. I’ll be honest, I’m ready to hit the road going somewhere I haven’t been before, but I’m not sure when I’ll feel safe to do that again. The average number of passengers are between7-11 per flight and most airlines have stopped beverage and snack service and some have eliminated the middle seat to follow the social distancing guidelines. So, this month, I’m re-living my trip to Australia in March of 2018. When I left Atlanta, it was a little nippy, and when I arrived in Sydney 22 hours later, it was in the high 70’s and beautiful. In another 2 hours I landed in Adelaide, where I would stay for 2 weeks! Yes- it was a 24 hour trip, I left on a Saturday and arrived on Monday, I lost an entire day! Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia and the fifth most populous city of Australia. I was there to visit my son, but God blessed me with perfect weather and the city’s famous Arts Festival.
One thing I found interesting, is that I wasn’t in the minority because I was Black but because I was American! Everyone I talked with was so friendly and they all asked
about our election and our politics. Another thing I loved was their fellowship around food-they love to dine out! The food was delicious and the seafood was especially fresh. I shopped at Rundle Mall, a pedestrian street shopper’s paradise! I must’ve visited every store there and there are thousands with food and entertainment too. I got my steps in everyday and I met people from France, Spain, Peru, Africa, New Zealand and more.
Now my favorite place was the Cleland Wildlife Park where I visited with Koala Bears, Emu’s, fed the Kangaroos, Wambats and more with my friend and tour guide Nicole. When we travel to other countries, we open our hearts and eyes to other
cultures and ethnicities and see that we all want the same things-Life, Love & Happiness.
